Furniture Resource Centre - Furnishing Homes, Furnishing Lives
Furniture Resource Centre realised that donated furniture was never going to provide the volumes of quality furniture that was (and is) required to make a real impact in the lives of the many thousands of people who desperately need to turn a house into a home. In 1994, Furniture Resource Centre invented a new way of doing business. Furniture Resource Centre applied the business principles of the private sector and combined them with the aims of the charity sector - relief of poverty – to develop a sustainable, self funding solution for people in need.
We launched a business selling packages of furniture to those organisations providing unfurnished accommodation to previously homeless people – housing associations, local authorities and charities.
From the outset, this new business helped people who would have otherwise tried to make a new life with the odds against them. Without furniture, people would be likely to abandon their new home or fall prey to money lenders all too happy to ensnare yet another customer.
This approach which focused on service delivery rather than grant funding started Furniture Resource Centre on the social business path.
Furniture Resource Centre continues to thrive today – its range of products has increased so it now offers a full range of furniture and furnishings and additionally supplies and fits curtains, carpets and white goods to over 4,000 families across the UK every year. To find out more about the range of products and services that Furniture Resource Centre delivers please look at their website.
