The History of FRC Group.
Sharing the learning – Cat’s Pyjama’s
FRC Group was beginning to be held up as an example of social business success. FRC Group saw in this an opportunity to share the learning it had made in a practical, sustainable way. We set up The Cat’s Pyjamas as a joint venture with Jeremy Nicholls and his company Urban Strategy Associates in 1999.
The aim of The Cat’s Pyjamas is to spread the good practice of social businesses and responsible private companies. In the early years when social enterprise was still emergent, Cat’s Pyjamas events provided one of the few credible opportunities for aspiring social entrepreneurs to learn, reflect , network and be inspired. Hundreds of people from throughout the UK and Europe attended The Cat’s Pyjamas programme – with FRC Group’s learning a core component.
Additionally, The Cat’s Pyjamas has run events in America and South Africa which connect UK social entrepreneurs, policy makers , funders and commentators to the work of great companies and social enterprises.
A whole support industry for social entrepreneurs has successfully developed in recent years. This has allowed The Cat’s Pyjamas to hang up its nightwear and allowed the joint venture partners to concentrate on other areas of their portfolios.
FRC Group and The Cat’s Pyjamas have published books to stimulate interest in social enterprise and spread the learning of FRC Group which can be found at the downloads page.
