As CEO, it’s my job to makes sure that we stay focussed on our mission to ‘End Furniture Poverty’. I also need to ensure that we’ve got the processes – and, most importantly, the right people to achieve this.

Another important part of my role is to make sure that we are always looking ahead and seeing and preparing for the challenges and opportunities that we are going to face.

Also, I need to make sure that our relationships outside of the organisation – with customers, supporters, politicians and media – are strong and positive.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?

For me, the most important thing about my job is knowing that we are creating a real difference in the work that we do. Our job’s are hard and demanding, but we know that after a hard week, we have not only done ‘well’ but we have also done ‘good’.

WHICH FRC VALUE BEST REPRESENTS YOU AND WHY?

II think ‘Passion’ is the value that represents me. I’ve been doing this for 22 years and we’ve had some real ups and downs during that time. You need to have a real belief and passion in what you do, to do it for so long.

Collette Williams

WHAT DO YOU DO?

My role has a few different strands to it:

People and Culture – I lead the HR function and am responsible for developing and implementing a people and culture strategy which supports FRC Group, our staff and our stakeholders. I formulate systems and strategies to enhance our mission and values, all with a view to creating a great place to work, with skilled colleagues, so we can all do a fantastic job of helping the people we exist to serve.

Social Value – I lead on ensuring that we measure, manage and maximise the social value that we create at FRC Group. Social Value is a measurement which values the ‘changes’ that happen as a result of an action. So, at FRC Group, we measure the change that people experience when they receive furniture. Social Value management allows us to identify any gaps that may exist in our efforts to End Furniture Poverty so that we can look for solutions and ensure that we create value for all of our stakeholders. At the moment I’m also managing our BBFW stores – with a view to creating as much social value as possible.

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, because I have a qualification in HR, which is equivalent to a Level 7 Master’s Degree which means my post-nominal title is Collette Williams MCIPD. I’m also a Social Value Practitioner and I’m currently working towards a degree in Strategic Business Management

The most important thing about my job is ensuring we have an amazing workforce of skilled people who are satisfied and brilliant in their roles so that we can create ever-increasing levels of social value and ultimately end Furniture Poverty.

WHICH FRC VALUE BEST REPRESENTS YOU AND WHY?

I’m going to say Passion! I love my job and I’ve worked here for 20 years. I am completely dedicated to what we do at FRC Group and how we help people. I am passionate about upskilling and developing all of our teams and ensuring that we have an excellent management team that can drive improvements so we can give an outstanding service to all of our customers.
